Come on Irene

So there's a pretty legit hurricane coming.  I'm going with the whole denial thing and rather than "fill up my bathtub with water" and "stock up on batteries" (pretty sure my entire office is doing that)  I went to the grocery store for rice krispy treat supplies.  IT IS HILARIOUS the franticness.  NO water, NO batteries...families of three with entire carts full of the hilarious purified baby water (that's all that's left.)  Like...really people?  It's not snowing, and it's going to rain...water.  And if the power's out and my water's not running...i'm sure my brita and spit will suffice.  Moral of the story--go to the grocery store, now.  It's hilarious.

Bear Fight

I kind of had a fake birthday party last night.  It was pretty much more fun than all of my other birthdays.  My friends got me a bear fight.  Don’t know what a bear fight is?  Well here you go:  http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bear%20Fight

I run to the bathroom real quick, come back to take this bear fight and everyone is kind of looking at me and laughing…which is pretty normal so I thought nothing of it.  Then like a noob, I didn’t drop the shot into the glass…I just took the shot of jager, then chugged the guiness…then I picked up the baileys and everyone is like, HAHAHAHAHA.  They SWITCHED the shots…not that it really mattered since I was doing it wrong anyway, but taking a shot of baileys then chugging redbull is disgusting.  Just sayin.

Asian Persuasion

Last weekend whilst waiting for an unsold out showing of Midnight in Paris, our waitress scoffed at our choice of movie because, she "was a fan until Woody Allen married his step daughter."  Ok so, I'm a little late at angry birds...and like...other stuff...but how did I miss this memo.  I generally get my pop culture 101 from Erica--but this gem...how did I miss it?!  I guess I was in the second grade or somethin...but still.  Someone should have told me.

So, he's old as crap and she's busted.  After a quick google I was almost un-interested.  Secondly, it's easy to hate on the old guy...I can't even look at a guy 5 years younger than me without feelin a bit creepy...but seriously, Soon-li...who are you kidding?  Why has there not been one of those posters with "Daddy Issues" at the bottom been created and emailed to me at work?  Cuz I mean...really.  Let me make one in paint real quick:

imma sell that.

Earthquake?

Comment your Earthquake recap/location!  OR earthquake haiku:

Building shaking whoa
What the fuck is this cali
Can I go home now

Basically I’m a few floors up so the building was swaying and rumbling…I grabbed on to the desk kind of confused like, this is some serious vertigo.  Then I was like wait wait, this is an earthquake..COOL.  Then this crazy ass lady walks out of her office all serious faced and was like, “there must be some construction going on upstairs.”  Yea…Good one.  Then I proceeded to hang out under a door frame for a few seconds…then took the stairs down for our evacuation which was fun except none of the office neighbors wanted to be friends.  Then texted my cali grandma to tell her about the earthquake.  Fin.

Thank God for my new step mom

You know you have a good mom when she takes a dna swab from your mouth before you go on a road trip.  My mom didn’t even call me on my birthday.  #FML.

It's Movie Monday

Since Erica is gone on her [super sweet I’m so jealous] road trip—I spent waaaay too much time hanging out with ‘newguy’ from my office this weekend watchin movies.  And by watching movies I really mean watching movies.

Midnight in Paris
I am not a big fan of Owen Wilson…I just don’t think he’s got a lot of depth and I want to give him a nose job, terribly…however, Midnight in Paris was a blast.  I was almost overwhelmed with all of the literary reference, but all in all it was super fun to watch.  I laughed a lot.  All of the characters were extremely well done (loved Dali) and Marion Cotillard was a super cute french addition.  It also kept me awake after waiting to see the [not sold out] showing at 9:40 after waiting since 7—and after a few beers—and that’s sayin something.  I walked the long way back to my car and drove the long way home after seeing it—feeling all romantic and seizin the 12am day and what not.
@ Bethesda Row Cinema.  Parking always blows but the theater is sweet.

Summer Pasture
Documentary about Tibetan nomads and their struggle with keeping their way of life with civilization encroaching.  It really was a simple documentary—no real climactic moments or anything, but that was pretty representative of their lives.  Watching the husband and wife's interaction and obvious love for each other and their unnamed little baby girl was moving.  The husband’s almost western obsession with his appearance (he used hair cream, zit cream, and shaved) was hilarious.  Their never ending long days filled with exhausting work made me pretty grateful for my weekends.  It was really a beautiful film to watch.
@West End Cinema—Super quaint, extra cute, but I was NOT expecting the tiny theaters with fold out chairs.  However they had BEER and the BEST popcorn, so, I loved it.
